Cox’s Bazar, 10 December 2023: Representatives of civil society called on everyone, including civil society, to work together in establishing human rights to prevent the global humanitarian crisis. Leaders of the civil society presented their speeches at the seminar titled “Human being is above all” organized by COAST Foundation on the occasion of World Human Rights Day on December 10, 2023, at the conference room of Light House and Family Retreat Hotel, Cox’s Bazar. They said, today human rights are being grossly violated in different parts of the world, women and children are being killed indiscriminately in Palestine, we can understand how terrible the scenario of human rights violations and oppression by the state is when we see the displaced Rohingya citizens. They also said that it is important to be able to talk about rights, protecting the rights of citizens is one of the key-responsibilities of the state, the state must play a leading role in protecting the rights of their citizens, and everyone must work together to reduce violence and establish human rights.
The seminar moderated by Mr. Jahangir Alam of COAST Foundation. The Seminar chaired by Mr. Fazlul Quader Chowdhury, President of Cox’s Bazar District Press Club and the Chief Guest was Mr. Kaiserul Haque Jewel, Chairman, Cox’s Bazar Sador Upazilla, Cox’s Bazar. Among others Mr. Nurul Islam, senior journalist and writer, Mr. Mohammad Ali Jinnat, Staff Correspondent, Daily Star, Ms. Neelima Akhtar Chowdhury, Chairman, Agrajatra, Mr. HM Ershad, District President, Bapa Cox’s Bazar, Mr. Saki A Kausar, APP Advocate, Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal, Prof. Maqbul Ahmed, Prominent writer, Mr. Ruhul Quader Babul, General Secretary of Cox’s Bazar Sahitya Academy, Mr. Moazzem Hossain Shakeel, District Representative, ATN Bangla, Mr. Mohammad Zafar Alam, General Secretary of Ukhia Imam Samiti Maulana, Mr. HM Faridul Alam Shahin, Senior Journalist, Mr. Jasim Uddin Siddiqui, Chief Executive of NGO Wait & C, Md. Ashraful Haque, Program Development Specialist, Mukti Cox’s Bazar, Mr. Mustafa Kamal Akand, Director, COAST Foundation and many others spoke at the event.
Mr. Fazlul Quader Chowdhury said, it is important to be able to speak about rights everywhere, but we are living in a world where voices are silenced. Everyone must work together to establish human rights by reducing retaliation.
Mr. Qaiserul Haque Jewel said a person gets some rights from his birth and they are human rights. There are 30 articles in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and 18 fundamental rights in our constitution. These rights are being violated in different ways in different countries of the world. We must all work to protect human rights. We must ensure that no human rights are violated by anyone.
Mr. Moqbul Ahmed said, we can understand the human rights violations when we see the displaced Rohingya citizens, Myanmar as a state should have protected the rights of the citizens, but we see that Myanmar has played the role of the oppressor and denied human rights. It has grossly deprived its citizens of their rights. The state has to play a leading role in protecting the rights of its citizens
Mr. Nurul Islam said, we are talking about human rights at a time where human rights are being grossly violated in different parts of the world, children are being killed indiscriminately in Palestine. Establishing human rights is one of the most challenging tasks in today’s world, requiring a collective voice.
Nilima Akhtar Chowdhury said that human rights are not being practiced anywhere in the family, society and state. It is very important to create awareness about human rights, in which case we have to consider the youth first.
Muhammad Ali Jinnah said collective resistance should be done wherever human rights are violated. Representatives of civil society should play an appropriate role in the establishment of human rights.
