COAST Extends Support to Families Affected by Fishing Trawler Capsized in Bhola

Bhola, July 1, 2023. COAST Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to coastal community development, provided its support for the families impacted by the tragic fishing trawler incident that occurred on June 25, 2023, in Bhola, Bangladesh.

On June 25, a devastating incident took place when a fishing trawler capsized during a severe storm near the mouth of Charpial 3 river, resulting in the loss of lives. Six fishermen were fortunate enough to be rescued and are currently receiving medical treatment at Charfashan Hospital. However, the search for two missing fishermen continues. Tragically, five fishermen lost their lives in the incident.

In a compassionate response to the incident, COAST Foundation provided a cash grant of 10,000 taka to the families of each deceased fisherman. Additionally, a cash grant of 5,000 taka has been provided to the families of the fishermen currently undergoing treatment and those who are still missing. This emergency financial assistance has been made possible through COAST Foundation’s own funds, under the inspiration of Gowhar Nayeem Warha, Disaster Expert, and Vice Chairman of COAST Foundation’s Executive Committee.

In a special ceremony held on July 1, 2023, COAST Foundation officially presented the support to the affected families. Dignitaries including the Panel Chairman of Charmadraj Union, members, political leaders, teacher representatives, leaders of the Fisheries Society, and Mr. Mahmudul Haque Didar, Deputy Director of COAST Foundation, were present to express their solidarity and support. It is to be mentioned that, COAST Foundation remains dedicated to standing with the community and ensuring ongoing support to the affected families as they navigate the path to recovery. The organization’s commitment to the well-being and resilience of coastal communities remains unwavering.
