COAST Preparedness and alerts for cyclone Bulbul

1. About Cyclone Bulbul and its impact: As per bulletin sl no. 25 from BMD (Bangladesh Meteorological Department), now the great danger signal no. 10 to the coastal districts of Bhola, Barguna, Patuakhail, Barishal, Pirojpur, Jhalokathi, Bagerhat, Khulna, Satkhira and their offshore islands and chars. This bulletin has also advised to signal no. 9 in Chattogram port and signal no. 4 in Cox’s Bazar port.

According to bulletin the cyclone will in landfall in West Bengal and Khulna by this evening. Due to cyclone, the wind speed will be 130-150 km/h and the coastal areas will inundated by storm surge of 5-7 feet height above normal astronomical tide.

  1. Communication established with Government Officials:
    We have attended meetings called by honorable Deputy Commissioners of Bhola, Cox’s Bazar and Barshal. We have given all the contact numbers of our responsible staff union level. Just now, Director has arranged a GoToMeeting conference call with all 66 leaders in field and instructed necessary preparedness.
  2. Cyclone tracking:
    The Radio Meghna (www.radiomeghna.net) is updating the weather bulletin of the Bulbul through 24/7 on air received from the BMD. It will continue until the crossing the Bulbul.
  3. All staff kept in standby:
    The station leave and leave of all staff have been cancelled and they are instructed to stay in office and women colleagues in their residence. Our all staff are well trained and skilled for disaster response.
  4. Preparedness:
    We have made ready two rescue boats one in Kachchapia ghat, Charfession, Bhola and one in Kutubdia ghat, Cox’s Bazar so that they can start rescue just after order. 6 Responsible staff list in the districts supposed to be affected. We have also made available sufficient cash amount in all field offices and selected the vendors for supplying emergency goods and material. Generator are OK with full of oil and also stocking fuel for motorcycles and other vehicles.
