24 March 2014: Today a National Consultation on Core Humanitarian Standards is held on the National Disaster
Preparedness Day 2014 where the speakers opined that there should be some set of standards for the organizations working on emergency responses and support.
The Pro-Vice Chancellor of the Bangladesh Open University Professor Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain was the chief guest in the meeting while Dr. Mahbuba Nasreen, the Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies of the University of Dhaka presides over and Mr. Gowhar Nayeem Wahra, Member Secretary, Foundation for Disaster Forum, moderates the consultation. At his welcome speech Sanat K. Bhowmik, Director, COAST Trust emphasized on the integration of core standards which is prerequisite for ensuring the humanitarian assistance.
Bangladesh support group of international organization Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) and the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerabilities studies of the University of Dhaka jointly organized the event at the conference room of the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban of the University of Dhaka.
The speakers also highlight that there should be some mechanism to ensure accountability of the organizations to the people they are working for. The program was organized also to address the National Disaster Preparedness day 2014.
