26 July 2025, COAST Foundation, Bhola: A deep depression has formed in the North Bay of Bengal turned into yesterday and flooded the low-lying areas, Bangladesh. Last night, the high tide accompanied by strong winds and high-water levels created a disaster environment. All the coastal districts are affected by tidal surge. The affected districts are Bhola, Patuakhali, Barguna, Noakhali, Satkhira, Khulna, Bagerhat, Chittagong, and Cox’s Bazar and these are were submerged in the 1 to 3 feet high tidal surge in the char areas, many localities were submerged.
Due to the impact of the deep depression, the low-lying area and seashore areas were flooded with tidal water due to abnormal tides. Several coastal districts were flooded with tidal water 3 to 4 feet higher than normal. Water entered homes, ponds, and croplands, causing distress.
Due to the low pressure in the sea, the Bhola char areas are being flooded with tidal surge, which has submerged the Bhola foreshore and outside of embankment part. Heavy winds have been blowing since Friday morning.
Md. Fazlul Haque, Project Coordinator from the Monpura office of the COAST, Bhola, said that many houses have been flooded due to the high tide. Areas like Monpura, Kalatali, Charpatila, Mujibnagar, Char Hasina, etc. have been flooded and many have been damaged. The situation is even more fragile due to the rain.
COAST staff are monitoring the situation.
