The evaluation assessed COAST Foundation’s “Empowering Coastal Communities: Addressing Climate Change and Resilience” project, implemented from January 2024 to June 2026 across 13 sub-districts in 9 climate-vulnerable districts of Bangladesh. The project reached 27,124 vulnerable coastal people, with a focus on women, adolescent girls, fisher-folk, persons with disabilities, and climate-displaced communities.
The evaluation found the project highly relevant and considerably effective in strengthening climate resilience, livelihoods, gender equality, community participation and access to essential services. Climate-adaptive livelihoods, community-based disaster preparedness, safe water solutions and participatory accountability mechanisms contributed to improved household and community resilience.
The project also strengthened adolescent girls’ economic empowerment and leadership, while community-led advocacy improved access to government services and social protection for marginalized groups. The evaluation assessed sustainability as moderately high, supported by community ownership, local partnerships, and institutional learning within COAST Foundation. The report recommends scaling up community-led, climate-adaptive, and rights-based approaches to strengthen long-term resilience and social justice in coastal Bangladesh.
